Dear Shooters:
Attached is the match report for the BORCC December 2009 IDPA Match. Due to the cold weather we decided to shoot indoors. It’s not that the staff at BORCC are only fair weather shooters. The boys from Cadillac call us a bunch of “Candy Assed Yankees”. The setup staff came up with four challenging courses of fire and one monster with defective safety glasses and lots of hard cover. Stage 5 was Ugly and ate a lot of people with 119 hits into hard cover (20% of the total shots fired at these three targets). That is not Ugly; that qualifies for Fugly.
There were 30 registered shooters (including 9 new shooters) with ten competitors going through the stages with a second firearm for a total of 40. SS dominated the field with 20 shooters; CD had only 2, ESP 7. There was one lonely shooter in SR, 6 ESR, and two very demented soles in the BUG 5-Shot revolver division. It is an interesting trend that 8 to 10 years ago the CD division had the largest block of shooters. Today SS dominates the matches.
When the smoke cleared and the dust settled BORCC’s own Mike Gorbitz was the top shooter in SS and overall lowest match time. He was also the second lowest overall match time with a different gun with only 0.04 seconds separating the two times. Good shooting Mike. CD division declared top shooter is BORCC’s own Tom Schwenk. Jack Cleminshaw had a slightly better time, but was using his second firearm which means he was able to practice the stages. Sorry Jack but we do let you practice the stages before shooting for score. Mike Michalski headed up the ESP group. ESR best time goes to BORCC’s Jack Cleminshaw. Both of the shooters in 5-Shot Revolver were shooting their second firearm so Mike Hasse is the top shooter with the BUG’s. Sorry again Jack.
Honorable mention goes to Randy Ciesiolka who came in 9th overall for the match with a stock revolver (SR) besting all the ESR shooters. Jack Cleminshaw also receives honorable mention coming in 11th overall with a revolver. Good shooting gentlemen. You both beat me like a rug. Although I am old, fat, bald, blind, and competing with a high retention duty holster with snap down mag pouches I came in 14th overall. No honorable mention; I’m just bragging.
Our next match will be on Sunday January 3rd. Match setup will be on Saturday the 2nd. For the new shooters if you come and help set up the match you can shoot on Saturday and then come back and shoot Sunday. Such a deal! I will speculate the Jan, Feb, and Mar matches will all be indoors. We will try to have some low light stages where we turn off the lights and you have to shoot with limited light or with a flashlight. Something you need to learn to do as 90 % of all gun fights occur in low light conditions. The BORCC shooters hope you new shooters had fun at our little match and that you will make the first Sunday of the month a regular visit to our range. To fight the effects of winter cabin fever come out and burn some gun powder. I wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and a safe New Years.
